About Me

Allergies: The Unbearable Sniffing, Sneezing and Drainage

My name is Marilyn Baker, and I have horrible allergies. I’m 42 years old and have been suffering from allergies since I was a child. I have seasonal and environmental allergies. Allergies plague me year round. When I was young, my parents even moved to a dryer area in the hope of helping me. Over the past eight years, I have done extensive research both through doctors and online. I have managed to come up with some combinations that have helped me a great deal. My allergies aren’t gone, but they have become manageable. I do have to have allergy shots, but I also use some natural remedies. I am happy to be able to share my findings with you here on my blog. I hope you can find some of this of value.

Allergies: The Unbearable Sniffing, Sneezing and Drainage

A Sleep Study Will Determine The Reason Why You Are Suffering From Insomnia

by Clifton Davidson

Insomnia is a common symptom that can be a result of stress, depression, substance abuse, an underlying medical condition, or inconsistent schedule. If you have consulted with your doctor about chronic insomnia that is interfering with your job performance and ability to remain alert during the day, a sleep study may be ordered.

What Is A Sleep Study?

A sleep study is commonly conducted inside of a neurologist's office or a special center in a hospital. A study involves spending a block of time inside of a room during the hours when a person would normally sleep. All efforts are made to create a calm, relaxing atmosphere.

Electrodes are placed on a patient's head and body prior to them attempting to fall asleep. The electrodes will transmit information associated with breathing patterns, physical movement, and brain movement. Based upon the results of a study, a neurologist can determine the factors that hinder sleep.

Try To Relax And Don't Force The Issue

Before heading to a sleep center, you will be given a list of instructions to follow. This list may include avoiding caffeine and other stimulants and restricting the type of food that is eaten prior to your appointment. Feel free to pack an overnight bag that includes your pajamas, a favorite pillow, and any small mementos that will help you feel at home during your stay.

The idea is to try to remain relaxed during the study. You will be closely monitored while you are attempting to sleep, but you should not focus on this aspect. If possible, envision yourself at home or at a hotel so that you won't be preoccupied with the testing phase.

Do not become upset if you are unable to sleep, however. The neurologist and the team of sleep specialists who assist will require accurate readings from your test, and if you truly are having difficulty with falling asleep or remaining asleep, it will be apparent during your sleep session.

Follow A Plan To Assist With Sleeping

After your stay, you may need to wait several days for the results of the study. If the study concludes that you have an actual sleep disorder, such as sleep apnea, you will be given treatment options. If your doctor believes that your condition is stress or diet-related, suggestions will be provided that will help you revamp your habits so that you are able to fall asleep quickly and stay asleep longer than you previously did.
